4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“What is a happily ever after really worth?"
The Divorce is one of my favourite Freida McFadden books in a while. It’s fast-paced, tense, messy, and full of that Freida magic that makes you want to read “just one more chapter” until suddenly it’s sunrise.
✨ Fast-Paced & Addictive
✨ Domestic Thriller
✨ Unreliable Narrator
✨ Twists & Turns
✨ Multiple POVs
✨ Gaslighting & Manipulation
One thing I really appreciated was that the twists felt believable and well thought out. Sometimes Freida’s reveals can come so far out of left field that they feel impossible to predict, but this time they felt more grounded.
I also found this one surprisingly emotional at times. The family dynamics, the divorce, and the feeling of being stuck in the middle of toxic relationships really hit close to home. Naomi could definitely be frustrating and naive at times, and some parts felt repetitive, but honestly it worked with the spiraling, obsessive tone of the story.
That being said, the ending did feel a little rushed compared to how detailed the first half was. I just wanted a bit more once it ended because there were a few things I still wanted to see play out.
One reveal genuinely made me laugh out loud because it was both absurd and way too believable at the same time.
If you’re looking for a bingeable thriller full of manipulation, toxic relationships, unreliable narrators, and nonstop twists, this one is definitely worth picking up when it releases on May 26th.
